Jennie Coker Gay papers, 1912-1984 (bulk 1912-1914).

Papers, 1912-1914 and 1984 and undated consisting chiefly of poetry, in draft and finished form, including issue of Harper's Magazine (March, 1913) with Gay's poem, Pine-trees. Also includes short story, "Ah Indeed!", believed to be based on the author's memories of the poor, underpriviledged residents of the S.C. sandhills areas, the "Ganeys," described as "dwellers in the dreary lands ... silent as shadows and usually as colorless," and their dependence upon the benevolence of her mother, Susan Stout Coker, for food and clothing. Includes 39 poems represented in 75 drafts; and photograph showing Mamie McClellan, for whom Jennie served as caretaker in later life.
